Stephen Colbert slammed Health and Human Services Secretary Robert F. Kennedy Jr. over his decision to cut $500 million in vaccine funding.  On ‘The Late Show’, Colbert mocked Kennedy’s move to eliminate 22 mRNA-related projects, calling it a dangerous step backwards. “That's the latest vaccine technology,†Colbert said. “It’s like saying, ‘Kids, I’m turning off the GPS. We’ll get to Six Flags by using the stars!’†He also responded to Kennedy’s claim that mRNA vaccines don’t perform well against upper respiratory viruses, despite evidence to the contrary.  A 2023 NIH study found mRNA vaccines to be highly effective and safe, estimating they prevented 14.4 million COVID-19 deaths. Colbert called Kennedy a “roadkill-munching, luddite, human Slim Jim,†and accused him of endangering lives, adding  “F*** you, you roid-addled nepo-carnie!â€.
