Erma Jean Thompson Gallimore was born March 4, 1936, in her family home of Floyd, VA. On August 2, 2025, at sunset, she passed peacefully away in her home of Christiansburg, VA. She was 89 years old.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Trigg and Lala Thompson; brothers, Cedric, Glenn, and Russell Thompson; and her sisters, Christine Reed, Betty Teel, and Nancy Tackitt.
Erma Jean is survived by her beloved husband of 71 years, Roger Gallimore; her son, Stephen Gallimore and his wife Jennie and their children, Darci, Maison, and Brie Gallimore; son, Neal Gallimore and his life partner Dan Kepler; her daughter, Jennifer Gallimore Pittman and her husband Brian Pittman, and their children, Mitchell and Connor Pittman. She is also survived by her brothers, Major and Joeseph Thompson; and her sister, Marie Hensley.
Erma Jean was a founding member of the Christiansburg Church of Christ. She was a secretary, realtor, restaurant manager, property developer, cake decorator, photographer, and artist. But she prided herself most in being a wife, mother, and grandmother. Erma Jean relished hosting birthday celebrations, holiday get-togethers and family dinners.
She and Roger also enjoyed lifelong friendships that involved doubles tennis matches, road trips, cruises, bridge tournaments, euchre games, and potluck dinners. She was an avid Virginia Tech Hokie fan, especially when they were winning.
The Gallimore family would like to thank Erma Jean's caretaking team, which she affectionately dubbed 'the Do Gooders", Tabatha, Kristina, Stacy, Melissa, Elesha, Ginger, and Laura.
Visitation will be Saturday, August 9, 2025, from 1-2 p.m. at Horne Funeral Home. Funeral Services will begin at 2 p.m. in the Chapel, with Jim Snyder officiating. Private interment will follow in Sunset Cemetery, Christiansburg.
