Bob Metz Jr. made the joyous journey from earth to heaven on Sunday, August 3, 2025, after living a life of humble service for more than 100 years.
With faith as his foundation, Bob served his family, church, community, and country. He was a World War II Navy veteran, then shortly after his return home, he met Reba on a blind date. They married and had three children. Bob thrived during his 35-year career at Double Envelope Corporation, with promotions to live in Gainesville, Fla., and Louisville, Ky. He "got the gold watch" and retired in 1990 as a vice president of the company and general manager of the Louisville division.
Upon retirement, he and Reba moved back home to Â鶹´«Ã½¹ÙÍø, where he enjoyed more family time and more golf! Always putting others before himself, he volunteered for Habitat for Humanity in the Builders Club until age 89. Bob quietly taught us all as he led by example.
Bob lived the longest of 10 children and four half-siblings of Robert L. and Martha B. Metz. He was predeceased in 2015 by his wife of 67 years, Reba Spickard Metz.
Bob is survived by two daughters and a son, Sue Harris and Gary Metz (Mary Pat) of Â鶹´«Ã½¹ÙÍø, Va., and Lori Roberts (Pete) of Estero, Fla. Three grandchildren and six great-grandchildren survive "Grandaddy" Bob, Erika Metz Hannon (Jacob), with Rowyn, Saige, Emery, Gared and Jarom; Marissa Harris Krey (Ben), with Jonah; and Bob's namesake, Alex Robert Ellsworth.
For the last eight years, Bob cherished the independent living community at Brandon Oaks. He was infamous for his daily visits to the gym and jigsaw puzzling skills - both of which reflected his commitment to living a long, healthy, and active life!
A celebration of Christ in Bob's life will be held at 11 a.m. at St. John Lutheran Church in Â鶹´«Ã½¹ÙÍø, Va., on Saturday, August 16, 2025, with visitation one hour prior to the service at the church. Burial will be private.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to St. John Lutheran Church, Habitat for Humanity of the Â鶹´«Ã½¹ÙÍø Valley, or to your favorite charity. Condolences may be shared with his family at .
