Harriette Catherine (Dee Dee) Spencer Shartzer, 95, of Â鶹´«Ã½¹ÙÍø, Va., went home to the Lord on Monday, August 4, 2025.
She was the daughter of the late Duncan Weir and Lottie Eanes Spencer. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her devoted husband of 47 years, Louis (Jiggs) Shartzer and best friend, Madalone Austin.
After graduating from Jefferson High School, she worked as a secretary for the school board. She was a lifelong member of the Waverly Place Baptist Church where she sang in the choir, taught Sunday School and served on various committees. She was also a longtime member of the Eastern Star.
She was first and foremost a devoted daughter, wife, mother and grandmother. God and family always came first.
She is survived by her daughters, Cathy Smawley and Robin Maxey (Johnny); son, Scott Shartzer (Jennifer); granddaughters, Leslie Craighead (Kevin), Wendy Maxey (Christine), and Maggie Shartzer; great-grandsons, Trey Gibson (Elizabeth), Shane Gibson (Molly), and Spencer Hudson; great great-grandchildren, Liam, Lydia, Trent, Julia, Austyn, and Rhodes; special cousin, Janet Spradlin; and numerous nieces, nephews and cousins.
The family would like to extend a special thank you to the staff at Berkshire Health and Rehab, Unit 3 and her roommate, Sue Needham, for their care and compassion. They were all a blessing to our mother and family.
A memorial service will be held at 2 p.m., on Wednesday, August 13, 2025, at Oakey's Vinton Chapel with Mr. Hank Holland officiating.
