MARTINSVILLE — The Henry County Sheriff’s Office has charged a Ridgeway man with two counts of first-degree murder in a double homicide that occurred Tuesday.

At approximately 12:58 p.m., the 911 Communications Center received a call from a resident on Meeks Road who reported a man shot and lying in the road in front of 267 Meeks Road, a release stated.
Deputies responded and discovered William Leroy Morey, 68, dead of multiple gunshot wounds.

Inside the residence, deputies found Mandy Michelle Coleman, 22, dead of a single gunshot wound.
At approximately 2:38 p.m., a Henry County deputy conducted a traffic stop near the Valley Star Credit Union in Martinsville, and located Joshua Corbett Coleman, the husband of Mandy Coleman, and their two children inside in the vehicle. Coleman was armed with a handgun and an AR-15 rifle, and was taken into custody without incident. The two children were found to be safe and unharmed.
In addition to the murder charges, Coleman has been charged with two counts of use of a firearm in the commission of a felony, one count of shooting from an occupied vehicle, and two counts of child abuse and neglect.
It was discovered that Morey had traveled to Meeks Road to check on the well-being of Mandy Coleman, the release stated.
“This is a heartbreaking and tragic situation that has deeply affected two families and our entire community. Our hearts go out to the loved ones of the victims during this incredibly difficult time,†Henry County Sheriff Wayne Davis said in the release. “I want to commend our deputies and our partner agencies for their swift and coordinated response, which led to the safe recovery of the children and the apprehension of the suspect.â€

The Crime Stoppers Program offers rewards up to $2,500 for information related to crime. The nature of the crime and the substance of the information determine the amount of reward paid.
