Baseball players from Virginia and Virginia Tech received All-ACC honors Monday.
Nine Cavaliers were recognized — a UVa program record.
UVa shortstop Griff O’Ferrall (.328, four homers, 45 RBIs) and UVa designated hitter/utility pick Ethan Anderson (.329, seven homers, 36 RBIs) made the first team. O’Ferrall became the 12th two-time All-ACC first-team pick in the program’s history.
The second team included outfielders Harrison Didawick (.306, 22 homers, 65 RBIs) and Casey Saucke (.355, 11 homers, 57 RBIs) and catcher Jacob Ference (.367, 17 homers, 40 RBIs) of UVa and outfielder Ben Watson (.418, four homers, 44 RBIs) of Virginia Tech.
The third team included starting pitcher Evan Blanco (6-3, 3.79 ERA, 76 strikeouts) and second baseman Henry Godbout (.376, six homers, 39 RBIs) of UVa and outfielder Chris Cannizzaro (.346, 12 homers, 49 RBIs) and starting pitcher Brett Renfrow (6-3, 4.33 ERA, 76 strikeouts) of Virginia Tech.

Renfrow was joined on the all-freshman team by UVa infielders Eric Becker (.354, eight homers, 41 RBIs) and Henry Ford (.352, 17 homers, 63 RBIs).
BASEBALL
Concord hires Bailey
NCAA Division II member Concord (W.Va) has announced the hiring of Christiansburg High School and Concord graduate Drew Bailey as its baseball coach.
He spent the past four seasons as Bluefield State’s baseball coach. His team had a school-record 33 wins this year. The squad won the HBCU World Series this year for the second time under Bailey.
The former minor leaguer has also served as Bluefield’s softball coach and Averett’s baseball coach.
MEN’S LACROSSE
Tufts 19, W&L 13
Charlie Tagliaferri had three goals and two assists to lead the eighth-ranked Jumbos (17-3) past the 13th-ranked Generals (16-6) in an NCAA Division III semifinal Sunday night.
Hillis Burns and Alex Brown each scored four goals for W&L, which played in the semifinals for the first time in 22 years. Washington and Lee trailed just 15-13 entering the fourth but failed to score in the fourth.
Tyler Spano had 16 faceoff wins, giving him a school-record 300 for his career.
MEN’S BASKETBALL
VMI adds transfer
VMI has announced the addition of Cyprian Hyde, a transfer from West Coast Conference member Portland. The 6-foot-11, 235-pound forward was redshirted as a freshman this year. The California native is the fourth transfer VMI has added this month.
MEN’S TENNIS
UVa’s Dietrich advances
UVa’s Dylan Dietrich beat Georgia’s Ryan Colby 6-4, 6-2 in the first round of the NCAA singles championships Monday in Stillwater, Okla.
UVa’s Chris Rodesch, Inaki Montes and Jeffrey von der Schulenburg could have competed in the singles tournament but opted to withdraw. Montes and partner James Hopper withdrew from the doubles championships.
WOMEN’S TENNIS
UVa’s Xu advances
Virginia’s Annabelle Xu beat Sofia Cabezas of Tennessee 6-1, 6-4 in the first round of the NCAA singles championships Monday in Stillwater, Okla.
Ohio State’s Irena Canots Siemers beat UVa’s Hibah Shaikh 6-3, 6-3 in another first-round match.
MEN’S GOLF
W&L’s McEwen honored
Jonathan McEwen of W&L has won the NCAA Division III Phil Mickelson Outstanding Freshman Award.
McEwen also was named to the nine-man Division III PING All-America first team by the Golf Coaches Association of America.
The 14th-ranked McEwen tied for 11th at the NCAA Division III championships. He had five top-10 finishes this year.
WOMEN’S GOLF
UVa finishes 28th at NCAAs
Virginia finished 28th out of 30 teams at the NCAA national championships Sunday night in Carlsbad, Calif.
UVa had a three-day total of 50-over 914. Only the top 15 teams advanced to Monday’s final round of stroke play.
