LOS ANGELESÌý— Fourth-seeded Grand Canyon beat second-seeded and 15th-ranked Virginia Tech 4-1 in the losers' bracket final of an NCAA softball regional late Saturday night.
Grand Canyon (50-12) advanced to Sunday's finals against UCLA.
The Hokies (40-14-1), who had lost to UCLA in the winners' bracket final earlier Saturday, finished 1-2 in the four-team, double-elimination regional.
Kayla Rodgers hit a two-RBI double to give Grand Canyon a 2-0 lead in the first inning.
Katelyn Dunckel belted a solo homer in the fourth to extend the lead to 3-0.
Addy Greene hit a sacrifice fly in the fifth to cut the lead to 3-1.
Grand Canyon scored a run on a wild pitch in the sixth.
Grand Canyon also beat Tech in the regular season.
Second-seeded Virginia (34-19) beat third-seeded and 24th-ranked Miami of Ohio (49-9) in the losers' bracket final of an NCAA regional late Saturday night in Knoxville, Tenn.
UVa advanced to Sunday's finals against Tennessee. The 4 p.m. game will air on ESPN2. This is the first time UVa has ever made a regional final.
UVa, which lost to Tennessee in the winners' bracket final earlier Saturday, is 2-1 in the four-team, double-elimination regional. UVa will have to beat Tennessee twice on Sunday to win the regional.
