Robert Anderson is proving to be a worthy adversary for the rest of The Â鶹´«Ã½¹ÙÍø high school football pick’em panel. The retired high school sports reporter won the Week 2 competition, claiming victory for the second straight week to begin the season.
Anderson finished 20-5, beating out Matt Case and Carl York by a single pick. He brazenly tabbed Narrows to beat Holston, the only panelist to do so, and it paid off as the Green Wave topped the Cavaliers 28-14. He was also in the minority by picking North Surry (N.C.) to beat Patrick County, something York also did. York was bolstered by picking Patrick Henry over E.C. Glass and Grayson County over Carroll County.
Through two weeks, Anderson leads the field with a record of 46-8, while Case sits in second place at 42-12.
For this week, Anderson has sided with the majority on most of his picks, although he is in the minority of those choosing Eastside to beat Rural Retreat.
Other bold picks include Bryson Gordon tabbing Tazewell to beat Grayson County, North Stokes (N.C.) to beat Patrick County and Greenbrier East (W.Va.) to beat Alleghany. Carl York has Floyd County knocking off Blacksburg for the second straight year, Mount Airy (N.C.) topping Jefferson Forest and Rockbridge County beating Staunton.

Cara Cooper has stood out as the lone soldier who is picking Franklin County to upend Patrick Henry in this week’s Â鶹´«Ã½¹ÙÍø game of the week. It’s a Class 5 matchup in Rocky Mount of 2-0 teams who are coming off signature wins.
It should be interesting. Enjoy an intriguing Week 3 in Southwest Virginia.
